Listen here: “God Speaks“
- There were a succession of prophets who provided guidance to Israel over the next couple thousand years. Those prophets and their words are recorded in the Bible.
- And because those prophets were in the future beyond Moses, Moses provided some instruction on how to identify them; so that Israel could tell the difference between true prophets and false prophets, true teaching from false teaching.
- The first thing that Moses said was that true prophets would come from the people of Israel. They would be like Moses; they would not be foreigners or aliens. They would be found among God’s people.
- God always speaks the truth, even when people don’t recognize it.
- But this raises a question: how can people recognize God’s truth? And this question applies equally to people who do know God’s truth and to people who don’t know God’s truth. It applies to everyone.
- John 18:31-32: “Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, ‘If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’”
