Listen Here: “Ordinary Faithfulness“

- Mark recorded the message as, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
- The general idea is that God had given the law through Moses. The law was given to Israel as a representative human group, and the law had run its course.
- Israel was in need of renewal … again. Over the centuries Israel had experienced several cycles of corruption and renewal. But the renewals always ended in corruption over time. Corruption and renewal was a well established historical pattern.
- Jesus’ comment that the time was fulfilled, meant that God was going to break out of that Old Testament pattern of renewal and corruption by doing a new thing.
- Paul said that we are to practice faithfulness where we are, in whatever situation we are currently in. We don’t need to go somewhere else, we don’t need any props. As the Nike ad says, “Just do it!”
