Listen Here: “God’s Presence“
1 Kings 17:8-16; Hebrews 9:24-28
- The story of the widow of Zarephath stands as a challenge to our faith. The first question that people need to deal with is whether or not the story is true.
- Clearly, the story at face value violates our understanding of reality.
- Flour and oil do not normally appear out of nothing. If our concern is how such a thing is possible, we will be left in doubt because we don’t know.
- If we don’t assume the factuality of the story, or don’t trust the integrity of the Bible, we turn it into a myth or fiction, and will dismiss it without further consideration.
- But just because something is fictional doesn’t mean that it doesn’t convey important truth.
- Imaginary scenarios can describe and convey important truths that are deeper and more complex that ordinary facts.
