- The power of forgiveness is the power of the gospel. Forgiveness is the essential message of the gospel and was given to the disciples when Jesus breathed on them, when He breathed the breath of new life into them, when they were filled with the power of the Holy Spirit. Forgiveness is the key!
- But here Peter in his very first sermon accused his audience of having murdered the Lord of Life!
- Did Peter not get the memo?! Did Peter forget to share the power of forgiveness? Maybe he forgot in the excitement of the healing and the confusion on the portico as people gathered to see the miracle for themselves. Maybe.
- The gospel is not a matter of going around and randomly telling people that they have been forgiven by the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ.
- The message of forgiveness falls flat when people think that they don’t need it, or that it is given to everyone for everything.
