To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. A Song.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

68 God shall arise, his enemies shall be scattered; and those who hate him shall flee before him! 2 <\/sup>As smoke is driven away, so you shall drive them away; as wax melts before fire,     so the wicked shall perish before God! 3 <\/sup>But the righteous shall be glad; they shall exult before God; they shall be jubilant with joy!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

4 <\/sup>Sing to God, sing praises to his name; lift up a song to him who rides through the deserts; his name is the Lord; exult before him! 5 <\/sup>Father of the fatherless and protector of widows     is God in his holy habitation. 6 <\/sup>God settles the solitary in a home; he leads out the prisoners to prosperity, but the rebellious dwell in a parched land.<\/p>\n

11 <\/sup>And His gifts were [varied; He Himself appointed and gave men to us] some to be apostles (special messengers), some prophets (inspired preachers and expounders), some evangelists (preachers of the Gospel, traveling missionaries), some pastors (shepherds of His flock) and teachers.<\/p>\n

6 Now in these days when the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint by the Hellenists arose against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution. 2 <\/sup>And the twelve summoned the full number of the disciples and said, \u201cIt is not right that we should give up preaching the word of God to serve tables. 3 <\/sup>Therefore, brothers, pick out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this duty. 4 <\/sup>But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.\u201d 5 <\/sup>And what they said pleased the whole gathering, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch. 6 <\/sup>These they set before the apostles, and they prayed and laid their hands on them.<\/p>\n

7 <\/sup>And the word of God continued to increase, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests became obedient to the faith.<\/p>\n
