A Contemplation of Ethan the Ezrahite.<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n
\n

89 I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever; With my mouth will I make known Your faithfulness to all generations. 2 <\/sup>For I have said, \u201cMercy shall be built up forever; Your faithfulness You shall establish in the very heavens.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\n

3 <\/sup>\u201cI have made a covenant with My chosen, I have sworn to My servant David: 4 <\/sup>\u2018Your seed I will establish forever, And build up your throne to all generations.\u2019\u201d Selah<\/p>\n

19 <\/sup>Then You spoke in a vision to Your holy one, And said: \u201cI have given help to one who is<\/i> mighty; I have exalted one chosen from the people. 20 <\/sup>I have found My servant David; With My holy oil I have anointed him, 21 <\/sup>With whom My hand shall be established; Also My arm shall strengthen him. 22 <\/sup>The enemy shall not outwit him, Nor the son of wickedness afflict him. 23 <\/sup>I will beat down his foes before his face, And plague those who hate him.<\/p>\n

24 <\/sup>\u201cBut My faithfulness and My mercy shall be<\/i> with him, And in My name his horn shall be exalted. 25 <\/sup>Also I will set his hand over the sea, And his right hand over the rivers. 26 <\/sup>He shall cry to Me, \u2018You are<\/i> my Father, My God, and the rock of my salvation.\u2019 27 <\/sup>Also I will make him My<\/i> firstborn, The highest of the kings of the earth. 28 <\/sup>My mercy I will keep for him forever, And My covenant shall stand firm with him. 29 <\/sup>His seed also I will make to endure<\/i> forever, And his throne as the days of heaven.<\/p>\n

Samuel\u2019s First Prophecy<\/em><\/h3>\n

3 Now the boy Samuel ministered to the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was rare in those days; there was<\/i> no widespread revelation. 2 <\/sup>And it came to pass at that time, while Eli was<\/i> lying down in his place, and when his eyes had begun to grow so dim that he could not see, 3 <\/sup>and before the lamp of God went out in the tabernacle of the Lord where the ark of God was,<\/i> and while Samuel was lying down, 4 <\/sup>that the Lord called Samuel. And he answered, \u201cHere I am!\u201d 5 <\/sup>So he ran to Eli and said, \u201cHere I am, for you called me.\u201d<\/p>\n

And he said, \u201cI did not call; lie down again.\u201d And he went and lay down.<\/p>\n

6 <\/sup>Then the Lord called yet again, \u201cSamuel!\u201d<\/p>\n

So Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, \u201cHere I am, for you called me.\u201d He answered, \u201cI did not call, my son; lie down again.\u201d 7 <\/sup>(Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, nor was the word of the Lord yet revealed to him.)<\/p>\n

8 <\/sup>And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. So he arose and went to Eli, and said, \u201cHere I am, for you did call me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Then Eli perceived that the Lord had called the boy. 9 <\/sup>Therefore Eli said to Samuel, \u201cGo, lie down; and it shall be, if He calls you, that you must say, \u2018Speak, Lord, for Your servant hears.\u2019\u201d So Samuel went and lay down in his place.<\/p>\n

10 <\/sup>Now the Lord came and stood and called as at other times, \u201cSamuel! Samuel!\u201d<\/p>\n

And Samuel answered, \u201cSpeak, for Your servant hears.\u201d<\/p>\n

Amos 8:11-14  (New King James Version)<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n

11 <\/sup>\u201cBehold, the days are coming,\u201d says the Lord God, \u201cThat I will send a famine on the land, Not a famine of bread, Nor a thirst for water, But of hearing the words of the Lord. 12 <\/sup>They shall wander from sea to sea, And from north to east; They shall run to and fro, seeking the word of the Lord, But shall not find it.<\/i><\/p>\n

13 <\/sup>\u201cIn that day the fair virgins And strong young men Shall faint from thirst. 14 <\/sup>Those who swear by the sin of Samaria, Who say, \u2018As your god lives, O Dan!\u2019 And, \u2018As the way of Beersheba lives!\u2019 They shall fall and never rise again.\u201d<\/p>\n
