A psalm of David.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

24 The earth is the Lord\u2019s and everything in it, the world and its inhabitants too. 2 <\/sup>Because God is the one who established it on the seas; God set it firmly on the waters.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

3 <\/sup>Who can ascend the Lord\u2019s mountain? Who can stand in his holy sanctuary? 4 <\/sup>Only the one with clean hands and a pure heart; the one who hasn\u2019t made false promises, the one who hasn\u2019t sworn dishonestly. 5 <\/sup>That kind of person receives blessings from the Lord and righteousness from the God who saves. 6 <\/sup>And that\u2019s how things are with the generation that seeks him\u2014that seeks the face of Jacob\u2019s God. Selah<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Coming of the magi<\/em><\/h3>\n

2 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in the territory of Judea during the rule of King Herod, magi came from the east to Jerusalem. 2 <\/sup>They asked, \u201cWhere is the newborn king of the Jews? We\u2019ve seen his star in the east, and we\u2019ve come to honor him.\u201d<\/p>\n

3 <\/sup>When King Herod heard this, he was troubled, and everyone in Jerusalem was troubled with him. 4 <\/sup>He gathered all the chief priests and the legal experts and asked them where the Christ was to be born. 5 <\/sup>They said, \u201cIn Bethlehem of Judea, for this is what the prophet wrote:<\/p>\n

6 <\/sup>You, Bethlehem, land of Judah,<\/i> by no means are you least among the rulers of Judah,<\/i> because from you will come one who governs,<\/i> who will shepherd my people Israel.<\/i>\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

7 <\/sup>Then Herod secretly called for the magi and found out from them the time when the star had first appeared. 8 <\/sup>He sent them to Bethlehem, saying, \u201cGo and search carefully for the child. When you\u2019ve found him, report to me so that I too may go and honor him.\u201d 9 <\/sup>When they heard the king, they went; and look, the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stood over the place where the child was. 10 <\/sup>When they saw the star, they were filled with joy. 11 <\/sup>They entered the house and saw the child with Mary his mother. Falling to their knees, they honored him. Then they opened their treasure chests and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. 12 <\/sup>Because they were warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they went back to their own country by another route.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
