17 <\/sup>These things I command you, so that you will love one another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hatred of the World<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

18 <\/sup>\u201cIf the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. 19 <\/sup>If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. 20 <\/sup>Remember the word that I said to you: \u2018A servant is not greater than his master.\u2019 If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. 21 <\/sup>But all these things they will do to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do All to the Glory of God<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

23 <\/sup>\u201cAll things are lawful,\u201d but not all things are helpful. \u201cAll things are lawful,\u201d but not all things build up. 24 <\/sup>Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor. 25 <\/sup>Eat whatever is sold in the meat market without raising any question on the ground of conscience. 26 <\/sup>For \u201cthe earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof.\u201d 27 <\/sup>If one of the unbelievers invites you to dinner and you are disposed to go, eat whatever is set before you without raising any question on the ground of conscience. 28 <\/sup>But if someone says to you, \u201cThis has been offered in sacrifice,\u201d then do not eat it, for the sake of the one who informed you, and for the sake of conscience\u2014 29 <\/sup>I do not mean your conscience, but his. For why should my liberty be determined by someone else’s conscience? 30 <\/sup>If I partake with thankfulness, why am I denounced because of that for which I give thanks?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

31 <\/sup>So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 32 <\/sup>Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God, 33 <\/sup>just as I try to please everyone in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
