The Promise of Rest<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

4 Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. 2 <\/sup>For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.<\/i> 3 <\/sup>For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo I swore in My wrath, \u2018They shall not enter My rest,\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. 4 <\/sup>For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day<\/i> in this way: \u201cAnd God rested on the seventh day from all His works\u201d; 5 <\/sup>and again in this place:<\/i> \u201cThey shall not enter My rest.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6 <\/sup>Since therefore it remains that some must<\/i> enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience, 7 <\/sup>again He designates a certain day, saying in David, \u201cToday,\u201d after such a long time, as it has been said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cToday, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

8 <\/sup>For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day. 9 <\/sup>There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. 10 <\/sup>For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did<\/i> from His.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

13 <\/sup>No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is<\/i> faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Build on the Rock<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

24 <\/sup>\u201cTherefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 <\/sup>and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

26 <\/sup>\u201cBut everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 <\/sup>and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
