Psalm 18:1-33  (English Standard Version)<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Lord<\/span> Is My Rock and My Fortress<\/span><\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David, the servant of the Lord<\/span>, who addressed the words of this song to the Lord<\/span> on the day when the Lord<\/span>delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul. He said:<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

18 <\/span>I love you, O Lord<\/span>, my strength.<\/span><\/span>
\n2 <\/sup>The Lord<\/span> is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,<\/span>
\n    <\/span>my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge,<\/span><\/span>
\n    <\/span>my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.<\/span><\/span>
\n3 <\/sup>I call upon the Lord<\/span>, who is worthy to be praised,<\/span>
\n    <\/span>and I am saved from my enemies.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

4 <\/sup>The cords of death encompassed me;<\/span>
\n    <\/span>the torrents of destruction assailed me;<\/span><\/span>
\n5 <\/sup>the cords of Sheol entangled me;<\/span>
\n    <\/span>the snares of death confronted me.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

6 <\/sup>In my distress I called upon the Lord<\/span>;<\/span>
\n    <\/span>to my God I cried for help.<\/span><\/span>
\nFrom his temple he heard my voice,<\/span>
\n    <\/span>and my cry to him reached his ears.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

7 <\/sup>Then the earth reeled and rocked;<\/span>
\n    <\/span>the foundations also of the mountains trembled<\/span><\/span>
\n    <\/span>and quaked, because he was angry.<\/span><\/span>
\n8 <\/sup>Smoke went up from his nostrils,<\/span>
\n    <\/span>and devouring fire from his mouth;<\/span><\/span>
\n    <\/span>glowing coals flamed forth from him.<\/span><\/span>
\n9 <\/sup>He bowed the heavens and came down;<\/span>
\n    <\/span>thick darkness was under his feet.<\/span><\/span>
\n10 <\/sup>He rode on a cherub and flew;<\/span>
\n    <\/span>he came swiftly on the wings of the wind.<\/span><\/span>
\n11 <\/sup>He made darkness his covering, his canopy around him,<\/span>
\n    <\/span>thick clouds dark with water.<\/span><\/span>
\n12 <\/sup>Out of the brightness before him<\/span>
\n    <\/span>hailstones and coals of fire broke through his clouds.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

13 <\/sup>The Lord<\/span> also thundered in the heavens,<\/span>
\n    <\/span>and the Most High uttered his voice,<\/span><\/span>
\n    <\/span>hailstones and coals of fire.<\/span><\/span>
\n14 <\/sup>And he sent out his arrows and scattered them;<\/span>
\n    <\/span>he flashed forth lightnings and routed them.<\/span><\/span>
\n15 <\/sup>Then the channels of the sea were seen,<\/span>
\n    <\/span>and the foundations of the world were laid bare<\/span><\/span>
\nat your rebuke, O Lord<\/span>,<\/span>
\n    <\/span>at the blast of the breath of your nostrils.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

16 <\/sup>He sent from on high, he took me;<\/span>
\n    <\/span>he drew me out of many waters.<\/span><\/span>
\n17 <\/sup>He rescued me from my strong enemy<\/span>
\n    <\/span>and from those who hated me,<\/span><\/span>
\n    <\/span>for they were too mighty for me.<\/span><\/span>
\n18 <\/sup>They confronted me in the day of my calamity,<\/span>
\n    <\/span>but the Lord<\/span> was my support.<\/span><\/span>
\n19 <\/sup>He brought me out into a broad place;<\/span>
\n    <\/span>he rescued me, because he delighted in me.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

20 <\/sup>The Lord<\/span> dealt with me according to my righteousness;<\/span>
\n    <\/span>according to the cleanness of my hands he rewarded me.<\/span><\/span>
\n21 <\/sup>For I have kept the ways of the Lord<\/span>,<\/span>
\n    <\/span>and have not wickedly departed from my God.<\/span><\/span>
\n22 <\/sup>For all his rules were before me,<\/span>
\n    <\/span>and his statutes I did not put away from me.<\/span><\/span>
\n23 <\/sup>I was blameless before him,<\/span>
\n    <\/span>and I kept myself from my guilt.<\/span><\/span>
\n24 <\/sup>So the Lord<\/span> has rewarded me according to my righteousness,<\/span>
\n    <\/span>according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

25 <\/sup>With the merciful you show yourself merciful;<\/span>
\n    <\/span>with the blameless man you show yourself blameless;<\/span><\/span>
\n26 <\/sup>with the purified you show yourself pure;<\/span>
\n    <\/span>and with the crooked you make yourself seem tortuous.<\/span><\/span>
\n27 <\/sup>For you save a humble people,<\/span>
\n    <\/span>but the haughty eyes you bring down.<\/span><\/span>
\n28 <\/sup>For it is you who light my lamp;<\/span>
\n    <\/span>the Lord<\/span> my God lightens my darkness.<\/span><\/span>
\n29 <\/sup>For by you I can run against a troop,<\/span>
\n    <\/span>and by my God I can leap over a wall.<\/span><\/span>
\n30 <\/sup>This God\u2014his way is perfect;<\/span>
\n    <\/span>the word of the Lord<\/span> proves true;<\/span><\/span>
\n    <\/span>he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

31 <\/sup>For who is God, but the Lord<\/span>?<\/span>
\n    <\/span>And who is a rock, except our God?\u2014<\/span><\/span>
\n32 <\/sup>the God who equipped me with strength<\/span>
\n    <\/span>and made my way blameless.<\/span><\/span>
\n33 <\/sup>He made my feet like the feet of a deer<\/span>
\n    <\/span>and set me secure on the heights.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
