Jeremiah 23:23-32  (English Standard Version)<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

23 <\/sup>\u201cAm I a God at hand, declares the Lord<\/span>, and not a God far away?<\/span>24 <\/sup>Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the Lord<\/span>. Do I not fill heaven and earth? declares the Lord<\/span>.<\/span> 25 <\/sup>I have heard what the prophets have said who prophesy lies in my name, saying, \u2018I have dreamed, I have dreamed!\u2019<\/span> 26 <\/sup>How long shall there be lies in the heart of the prophets who prophesy lies, and who prophesy the deceit of their own heart,<\/span> 27 <\/sup>who think to make my people forget my name by their dreams that they tell one another, even as their fathers forgot my name for Baal?<\/span> 28 <\/sup>Let the prophet who has a dream tell the dream, but let him who has my word speak my word faithfully. What has straw in common with wheat? declares the Lord<\/span>.<\/span> 29 <\/sup>Is not my word like fire, declares the Lord<\/span>, and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?<\/span> 30 <\/sup>Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, declares the Lord<\/span>, who steal my words from one another.<\/span> 31 <\/sup>Behold, I am against the prophets, declares the Lord<\/span>, who use their tongues and declare, \u2018declares the Lord<\/span>.\u2019<\/span> 32 <\/sup>Behold, I am against those who prophesy lying dreams, declares the Lord<\/span>, and who tell them and lead my people astray by their lies and their recklessness, when I did not send them or charge them. So they do not profit this people at all, declares the Lord<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hebrews 11:29-40  (English Standard Version)<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

29 <\/sup>By faith the people crossed the Red Sea as on dry land, but the Egyptians, when they attempted to do the same, were drowned.<\/span> 30 <\/sup>By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they had been encircled for seven days.<\/span> 31 <\/sup>By faith Rahab the prostitute did not perish with those who were disobedient, because she had given a friendly welcome to the spies.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

32 <\/sup>And what more shall I say? For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets\u2014<\/span>33 <\/sup>who through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,<\/span> 34 <\/sup>quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, were made strong out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight.<\/span> 35 <\/sup>Women received back their dead by resurrection. Some were tortured, refusing to accept release, so that they might rise again to a better life.<\/span> 36 <\/sup>Others suffered mocking and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment.<\/span> 37 <\/sup>They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were killed with the sword. They went about in skins of sheep and goats, destitute, afflicted, mistreated\u2014<\/span>38 <\/sup>of whom the world was not worthy\u2014wandering about in deserts and mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

39 <\/sup>And all these, though commended through their faith, did not receive what was promised,<\/span> 40 <\/sup>since God had provided something better for us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
