John 12:1-8  (New International Version)<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Jesus Anointed at Bethany<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

12 <\/span>Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus lived, whom Jesus had raised from the dead.<\/span> 2 <\/sup>Here a dinner was given in Jesus\u2019 honor. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him.<\/span> 3 <\/sup>Then Mary took about a pint[a<\/a>]<\/sup> of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus\u2019 feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

4 <\/sup>But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him,objected,<\/span> 5 <\/sup>\u201cWhy wasn\u2019t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year\u2019s wages.[b<\/a>]<\/sup>\u201d<\/span> 6 <\/sup>He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

7 <\/sup>\u201cLeave her alone,\u201d<\/span> Jesus replied. \u201cIt was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial.<\/span><\/span> 8 <\/sup>You will always have the poor among you,[c<\/a>]<\/sup> but you will not always have me.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
