Exodus 3:1-15  (New International Version)<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Moses and the Burning Bush<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

3 <\/span>Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.<\/span> 2 <\/sup>There the angel of the Lord<\/span> appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up.<\/span> 3 <\/sup>So Moses thought, \u201cI will go over and see this strange sight\u2014why the bush does not burn up.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

4 <\/sup>When the Lord<\/span> saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, \u201cMoses! Moses!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And Moses said, \u201cHere I am.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

5 <\/sup>\u201cDo not come any closer,\u201d God said. \u201cTake off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.\u201d<\/span> 6 <\/sup>Then he said, \u201cI am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.\u201d At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

7 <\/sup>The Lord<\/span> said, \u201cI have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering.<\/span> 8 <\/sup>So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey\u2014the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites.<\/span> 9 <\/sup>And now the cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them.<\/span> 10 <\/sup>So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

11 <\/sup>But Moses said to God, \u201cWho am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

12 <\/sup>And God said, \u201cI will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

13 <\/sup>Moses said to God, \u201cSuppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, \u2018The God of your fathers has sent me to you,\u2019 and they ask me, \u2018What is his name?\u2019 Then what shall I tell them?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

14 <\/sup>God said to Moses, \u201cI am who I am<\/span>. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: \u2018I am<\/span> has sent me to you.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

15 <\/sup>God also said to Moses, \u201cSay to the Israelites, \u2018The Lord<\/span>, the God of your fathers\u2014the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob\u2014has sent me to you.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

\u201cThis is my name forever,<\/span>
\n    <\/span>the name you shall call me<\/span><\/span>
\n    <\/span>from generation to generation.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
