{"id":3620,"date":"2019-02-15T22:44:33","date_gmt":"2019-02-15T22:44:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stpaulsmarietta.org\/?p=3620"},"modified":"2026-02-28T21:46:14","modified_gmt":"2026-02-28T21:46:14","slug":"worship-february-17-2019-6th-sunday-after-epiphany","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stpaulsmarietta.org\/?p=3620","title":{"rendered":"Worship &#8211; February 17, 2019 &#8211; 6th Sunday after Epiphany"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #779e00\"><em><strong>&#8220;The G.O.A.T.&#8217;S&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/stpaulsmarietta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Moses-and-the-Burning-Bush.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/stpaulsmarietta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Moses-and-the-Burning-Bush-300x223.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3621\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #779e00\"><em><strong>Exodus 3:1-15&nbsp; (New International Version)<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><span id=\"en-NIV-1581\" class=\"text Exod-3-1\">Moses and the Burning Bush<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"chapter-1 wp-block-paragraph\"><span class=\"text Exod-3-1\"><span class=\"chapternum\">3&nbsp;<\/span>Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro&nbsp;his father-in-law, the priest of Midian,&nbsp;and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb,&nbsp;the mountain&nbsp;of God.<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-1582\" class=\"text Exod-3-2\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2&nbsp;<\/sup>There the angel of the&nbsp;<span class=\"small-caps\">Lord<\/span>&nbsp;appeared to him in flames of fire&nbsp;from within a bush.&nbsp;Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up.<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-1583\" class=\"text Exod-3-3\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3&nbsp;<\/sup>So Moses thought, \u201cI will go over and see this strange sight\u2014why the bush does not burn up.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span id=\"en-NIV-1584\" class=\"text Exod-3-4\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4&nbsp;<\/sup>When the&nbsp;<span class=\"small-caps\">Lord<\/span>&nbsp;saw that he had gone over to look, God called&nbsp;to him from within the bush,&nbsp;\u201cMoses! Moses!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span class=\"text Exod-3-4\">And Moses said, \u201cHere I am.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span id=\"en-NIV-1585\" class=\"text Exod-3-5\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5&nbsp;<\/sup>\u201cDo not come any closer,\u201d&nbsp;God said. \u201cTake off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.\u201d<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-1586\" class=\"text Exod-3-6\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6&nbsp;<\/sup>Then he said, \u201cI am the God of your father,&nbsp;the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.\u201d&nbsp;At this, Moses hid&nbsp;his face, because he was afraid to look at God.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span id=\"en-NIV-1587\" class=\"text Exod-3-7\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7&nbsp;<\/sup>The&nbsp;<span class=\"small-caps\">Lord<\/span>&nbsp;said, \u201cI have indeed seen&nbsp;the misery&nbsp;of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned&nbsp;about their suffering.<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-1588\" class=\"text Exod-3-8\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8&nbsp;<\/sup>So I have come down&nbsp;to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land,&nbsp;a land flowing with milk and honey\u2014the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites&nbsp;and Jebusites.<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-1589\" class=\"text Exod-3-9\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9&nbsp;<\/sup>And now the cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing&nbsp;them.<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-1590\" class=\"text Exod-3-10\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10&nbsp;<\/sup>So now, go. I am sending&nbsp;you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span id=\"en-NIV-1591\" class=\"text Exod-3-11\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11&nbsp;<\/sup>But Moses said to God, \u201cWho am I&nbsp;that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span id=\"en-NIV-1592\" class=\"text Exod-3-12\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12&nbsp;<\/sup>And God said, \u201cI will be with you.&nbsp;And this will be the sign&nbsp;to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you&nbsp;will worship God on this mountain.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span id=\"en-NIV-1593\" class=\"text Exod-3-13\"><sup class=\"versenum\">13&nbsp;<\/sup>Moses said to God, \u201cSuppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, \u2018The God of your fathers has sent me to you,\u2019 and they ask me, \u2018What is his name?\u2019&nbsp;Then what shall I tell them?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span id=\"en-NIV-1594\" class=\"text Exod-3-14\"><sup class=\"versenum\">14&nbsp;<\/sup>God said to Moses, \u201c<span class=\"small-caps\">I am who I am<\/span>.&nbsp;This is what you are to say to the Israelites: \u2018<span class=\"small-caps\">I am<\/span>&nbsp;has sent me to you.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span id=\"en-NIV-1595\" class=\"text Exod-3-15\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15&nbsp;<\/sup>God also said to Moses, \u201cSay to the Israelites, \u2018The&nbsp;<span class=\"small-caps\">Lord<\/span>,&nbsp;the God of your fathers\u2014the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob\u2014has sent me to you.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"poetry top-05\">\n<p class=\"line\"><span class=\"text Exod-3-15\">\u201cThis is my name&nbsp;forever,<\/span><br>\n<span class=\"indent-1\"><span class=\"indent-1-breaks\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"text Exod-3-15\">the name you shall call me<\/span><\/span><br>\n<span class=\"indent-1\"><span class=\"indent-1-breaks\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"text Exod-3-15\">from generation to generation.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span style=\"color: #779e00\">Coffee &amp;
