{"id":3615,"date":"2019-02-08T23:22:39","date_gmt":"2019-02-08T23:22:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stpaulsmarietta.org\/?p=3615"},"modified":"2019-02-08T23:22:39","modified_gmt":"2019-02-08T23:22:39","slug":"worship-february-10-2019-5th-sunday-after-epiphany","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stpaulsmarietta.org\/?p=3615","title":{"rendered":"Worship &#8211; February 10, 2019 &#8211; 5th Sunday after Epiphany"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><em><strong>&#8220;G.O.A.T.S (Part 5)<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stpaulsmarietta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Hagar.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3616 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/stpaulsmarietta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Hagar-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><em><strong>Genesis 16:1-16\u00a0 (New International Version)<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Hagar and Ishmael<\/em><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>16&nbsp;<\/strong>Now Sarai,&nbsp;Abram\u2019s wife, had borne him no children.&nbsp;But she had an Egyptian slave&nbsp;named Hagar;&nbsp;<sup>2&nbsp;<\/sup>so she said to Abram, \u201cThe&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;has kept me from having children.&nbsp;Go, sleep with my slave; perhaps I can build a family through her.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Abram agreed to what Sarai said.&nbsp;<sup>3&nbsp;<\/sup>So after Abram had been living in Canaan&nbsp;ten years,&nbsp;Sarai his wife took her Egyptian slave Hagar and gave her to her husband to be his wife.&nbsp;<sup>4&nbsp;<\/sup>He slept with Hagar,&nbsp;and she conceived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When she knew she was pregnant, she began to despise her mistress.<sup>5&nbsp;<\/sup>Then Sarai said to Abram, \u201cYou are responsible for the wrong I am suffering. I put my slave in your arms, and now that she knows she is pregnant, she despises me. May the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;judge between you and me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><sup>6&nbsp;<\/sup>\u201cYour slave is in your hands,\u201d Abram said. \u201cDo with her whatever you think best.\u201d Then Sarai mistreated&nbsp;Hagar; so she fled from her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><sup>7&nbsp;<\/sup>The angel of the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;found Hagar near a spring&nbsp;in the desert; it was the spring that is beside the road to Shur.&nbsp;<sup>8&nbsp;<\/sup>And he said, \u201cHagar,&nbsp;slave of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m running away from my mistress Sarai,\u201d she answered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><sup>9&nbsp;<\/sup>Then the angel of the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;told her, \u201cGo back to your mistress and submit to her.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>10&nbsp;<\/sup>The angel added, \u201cI will increase your descendants so much that they will be too numerous to count.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><sup>11&nbsp;<\/sup>The angel of the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;also said to her:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou are now pregnant<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and you will give birth to a son.<br>You shall name him&nbsp;Ishmael,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;for the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;has heard of your misery.<br><sup>12&nbsp;<\/sup>He will be a wild donkey&nbsp;of a man;<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;his hand will be against everyone<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and everyone\u2019s hand against him,<br>and he will live in hostility<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;toward&nbsp;all his brothers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><sup>13&nbsp;<\/sup>She gave this name to the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;who spoke to her: \u201cYou are the God who sees me,\u201d for she said, \u201cI have now seen&nbsp;the One who sees me.\u201d<sup>14&nbsp;<\/sup>That is why the well&nbsp;was called Beer Lahai Roi;&nbsp;it is still there, between Kadesh&nbsp;and Bered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>So Hagar\u00a0bore Abram a son,\u00a0and Abram gave the name Ishmael\u00a0to the son she had borne.\u00a0<sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>Abram was eighty-six years old\u00a0when Hagar bore him Ishmael.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Coffee &amp; Discussion:<br><\/em><\/strong>9:00 \u2013 9:45 AM \u2013 in the Parish Hall Upper Level. &nbsp;Join our adult Coffee &amp; Discussion group.&nbsp; The current topic is a study of Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>Sunday School:<\/strong><\/em><br>10:00 \u2013 11:00 AM \u2013 in the Parish Hall Lower Level. &nbsp;A Children\u2019s Church program is available weekly on Sunday mornings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>Nursery Ministry:<\/strong><\/em><br>10:00 \u2013 11:00 AM \u2013 in the Parish Hall Lower Level. &nbsp;Available every Sunday morning during the worship service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>Sunday Morning Worship:<\/strong><\/em><br>10:00 AM \u2013 in the Sanctuary. \u00a0Join us today for Pastor Joe Vasarhelyi\u2019s sermon \u201cThe G.O.A.T.\u2019S.
