Genesis 15:1-11 (New International Version)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\u00a0Lord\u2019s Covenant With Abram<\/em><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

15 <\/strong>After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDo not be afraid, Abram.
    I am your shield,
    your very great reward.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2 <\/sup>But Abram said, \u201cSovereign Lord, what can you give me since I remain childless and the one who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?\u201d3 <\/sup>And Abram said, \u201cYou have given me no children; so a servant in my household will be my heir.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4 <\/sup>Then the word of the Lord came to him: \u201cThis man will not be your heir, but a son who is your own flesh and blood will be your heir.\u201d 5 <\/sup>He took him outside and said, \u201cLook up at the sky and count the stars\u2014if indeed you can count them.\u201d Then he said to him, \u201cSo shall your offspring be.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6 <\/sup>Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7 <\/sup>He also said to him, \u201cI am the Lord, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to take possession of it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8 <\/sup>But Abram said, \u201cSovereign Lord, how can I know that I will gain possession of it?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

9 <\/sup>So the Lord said to him, \u201cBring me a heifer, a goat and a ram, each three years old, along with a dove and a young pigeon.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

10\u00a0<\/sup>Abram brought all these to him, cut them in two and arranged the halves opposite each other;\u00a0the birds, however, he did not cut in half.11\u00a0<\/sup>Then birds of prey came down on the carcasses,\u00a0but Abram drove them away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
