Genesis 4:1-9 (New International Version)<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Cain and Abel<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

4 <\/strong>Adam made love to his wife Eve, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain. She said, \u201cWith the help of the Lord I have brought forth a man.\u201d 2 <\/sup>Later she gave birth to his brother Abel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil. 3 <\/sup>In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord.4 <\/sup>And Abel also brought an offering\u2014fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering,5 <\/sup>but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6 <\/sup>Then the Lord said to Cain, \u201cWhy are you angry? Why is your face downcast? 7 <\/sup>If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8 <\/sup>Now Cain said to his brother Abel, \u201cLet\u2019s go out to the field.\u201d While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

9 <\/sup>Then the Lord said to Cain, \u201cWhere is your brother Abel?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know,\u201d he replied. \u201cAm I my brother\u2019s keeper?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
