{"id":3200,"date":"2017-11-27T00:54:52","date_gmt":"2017-11-27T00:54:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stpaulsmarietta.org\/?p=3200"},"modified":"2026-02-28T21:46:52","modified_gmt":"2026-02-28T21:46:52","slug":"worship-november-26-2017-last-sunday-of-pentecost","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stpaulsmarietta.org\/?p=3200","title":{"rendered":"Worship &#8211; November 26, 2017 &#8211; Last Sunday of Pentecost"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #993300\"><em><strong>&#8220;Season of Celebration&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/stpaulsmarietta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Season-of-Celebration.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/stpaulsmarietta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Season-of-Celebration-300x158.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3201\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #993300\"><em><strong>Ephesians 1:15-23&nbsp; (New International Version)<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><span id=\"en-NIV-29222\" class=\"text Eph-1-15\">Thanksgiving and Prayer<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span class=\"text Eph-1-15\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15&nbsp;<\/sup>For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesusand your love for all God\u2019s people,<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-29223\" class=\"text Eph-1-16\"><sup class=\"versenum\">16&nbsp;<\/sup>I have not stopped giving thanks for you,&nbsp;remembering you in my prayers.<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-29224\" class=\"text Eph-1-17\"><sup class=\"versenum\">17&nbsp;<\/sup>I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father,&nbsp;may give you the Spirit&nbsp;of wisdom&nbsp;and revelation, so that you may know him better.<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-29225\" class=\"text Eph-1-18\"><sup class=\"versenum\">18&nbsp;<\/sup>I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened&nbsp;in order that you may know the hope to which he has called&nbsp;you, the riches&nbsp;of his glorious inheritance&nbsp;in his holy people,<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-29226\" class=\"text Eph-1-19\"><sup class=\"versenum\">19&nbsp;<\/sup>and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power&nbsp;is the same as the mighty strength<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-29227\" class=\"text Eph-1-20\"><sup class=\"versenum\">20&nbsp;<\/sup>he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead&nbsp;and seated him at his right hand&nbsp;in the heavenly realms,<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-29228\" class=\"text Eph-1-21\"><sup class=\"versenum\">21&nbsp;<\/sup>far above all rule and authority, power and dominion,&nbsp;and every name&nbsp;that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-29229\" class=\"text Eph-1-22\"><sup class=\"versenum\">22&nbsp;<\/sup>And God placed all things under his feet&nbsp;and appointed him to be head&nbsp;over everything for the church,<\/span><span id=\"en-NIV-29230\" class=\"text Eph-1-23\"><sup class=\"versenum\">23&nbsp;<\/sup>which is his body,&nbsp;the fullness of him&nbsp;who fills everything in every way.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #993300\"><em><strong>Nehemiah 8:1-12&nbsp; (New International Version)<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span id=\"en-NIV-12495\" class=\"text Neh-8-1\"><span class=\"chapternum mid-paragraph\">8&nbsp;<\/span><sup class=\"versenum mid-paragraph\">1&nbsp;<\/sup>all the people came together as one in the square before the Water Gate.&nbsp;They told Ezra the teacher of the Law to bring out the Book of the Law of Moses,&nbsp;which the&nbsp;<span class=\"small-caps\">Lord<\/span>&nbsp;had commanded for Israel.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span id=\"en-NIV-12496\" class=\"text Neh-8-2\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2&nbsp;<\/sup>So on the first day of the seventh month&nbsp;Ezra the priest brought the Law&nbsp;before the assembly, which was made up of men and women and all who were able to understand.<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-12497\" class=\"text Neh-8-3\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3&nbsp;<\/sup>He read it aloud from daybreak till noon as he faced the square before the Water Gate&nbsp;in the presence of the men, women and others who could understand. And all the people listened attentively to the Book of the Law.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span id=\"en-NIV-12498\" class=\"text Neh-8-4\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4&nbsp;<\/sup>Ezra the teacher of the Law stood on a high wooden platform&nbsp;built for the occasion. Beside him on his right stood Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Uriah, Hilkiah and Maaseiah; and on his left were Pedaiah, Mishael, Malkijah, Hashum, Hashbaddanah, Zechariah and Meshullam.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span id=\"en-NIV-12499\" class=\"text Neh-8-5\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5&nbsp;<\/sup>Ezra opened the book. All the people could see him because he was standing&nbsp;above them; and as he opened it, the people all stood up.<\/span><span id=\"en-NIV-12500\" class=\"text Neh-8-6\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6&nbsp;<\/sup>Ezra praised the&nbsp;<span class=\"small-caps\">Lord<\/span>, the great God; and all the people lifted their hands&nbsp;and responded, \u201cAmen! Amen!\u201d Then they bowed down and worshiped the&nbsp;<span class=\"small-caps\">Lord<\/span>&nbsp;with their faces to the ground.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span id=\"en-NIV-12501\" class=\"text Neh-8-7\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7&nbsp;<\/sup>The Levites\u2014Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan and Pelaiah\u2014instructed&nbsp;the people in the Law while the people were standing there.<\/span><span id=\"en-NIV-12502\" class=\"text Neh-8-8\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8&nbsp;<\/sup>They read from the Book of the Law of God, making it clear&nbsp;and giving the meaning so that the people understood what was being read.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span id=\"en-NIV-12503\" class=\"text Neh-8-9\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9&nbsp;<\/sup>Then Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the priest and teacher of the Law, and the Levites&nbsp;who were instructing the people said to them all, \u201cThis day is holy to the&nbsp;<span class=\"small-caps\">Lord<\/span>&nbsp;your God. Do not mourn or weep.\u201d&nbsp;For all the people had been weeping as they listened to the words of the Law.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span id=\"en-NIV-12504\" class=\"text Neh-8-10\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10&nbsp;<\/sup>Nehemiah said, \u201cGo and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing&nbsp;prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy&nbsp;of the&nbsp;<span class=\"small-caps\">Lord<\/span>&nbsp;is your strength.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span id=\"en-NIV-12505\" class=\"text Neh-8-11\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11&nbsp;<\/sup>The Levites calmed all the people, saying, \u201cBe still, for this is a holy day.
