{"id":2951,"date":"2017-05-21T02:15:16","date_gmt":"2017-05-21T02:15:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stpaulsmarietta.org\/?p=2951"},"modified":"2026-02-28T21:58:18","modified_gmt":"2026-02-28T21:58:18","slug":"worship-may-21-2017-6th-sunday-of-easter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stpaulsmarietta.org\/?p=2951","title":{"rendered":"Worship &#8211; May 21, 2017 &#8211; 6th Sunday of Easter"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #1e1ed9\"><strong>There will be a Grief Share Memorial Service during the morning worship and a pot luck lunch following the service.<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #ab0919\"><em><strong>&#8220;What Is Guaranteed&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/stpaulsmarietta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/The-Resurrection-of-Lazarus.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/stpaulsmarietta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/The-Resurrection-of-Lazarus-300x216.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2953\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #ab0919\"><em><strong>John 11:18-27 &nbsp;(New International Version)<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span id=\"en-NIV-26542\" class=\"text John-11-18\"><sup class=\"versenum\">18&nbsp;<\/sup>Now Bethany was less than two miles from Jerusalem,<\/span> <span id=\"en-NIV-26543\" class=\"text John-11-19\"><sup class=\"versenum\">19&nbsp;<\/sup>and many Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them in the loss of their brother.<\/span> <span id=\"en-NIV-26544\" class=\"text John-11-20\"><sup class=\"versenum\">20&nbsp;<\/sup>When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went out to meet him, but Mary stayed at home.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span id=\"en-NIV-26545\" class=\"text John-11-21\"><sup class=\"versenum\">21&nbsp;<\/sup>\u201cLord,\u201d Martha said to Jesus, \u201cif you had been here, my brother would not have died.<\/span> <span id=\"en-NIV-26546\" class=\"text John-11-22\"><sup class=\"versenum\">22&nbsp;<\/sup>But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span id=\"en-NIV-26547\" class=\"text John-11-23\"><sup class=\"versenum\">23&nbsp;<\/sup>Jesus said to her, <span class=\"woj\">\u201cYour brother will rise again.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span id=\"en-NIV-26548\" class=\"text John-11-24\"><sup class=\"versenum\">24&nbsp;<\/sup>Martha answered, \u201cI know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span id=\"en-NIV-26549\" class=\"text John-11-25\"><sup class=\"versenum\">25&nbsp;<\/sup>Jesus said to her, <span class=\"woj\">\u201cI am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;<\/span><\/span> <span id=\"en-NIV-26550\" class=\"text John-11-26\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">26&nbsp;<\/sup>and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span id=\"en-NIV-26551\" class=\"text John-11-27\"><sup class=\"versenum\">27&nbsp;<\/sup>\u201cYes, Lord,\u201d she replied, \u201cI believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #ab0919\"><em><strong>Lamentations 3:31-39 &nbsp;(New International Version)<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"poetry top-05\">\n<p class=\"line\"><span id=\"en-NIV-20386\" class=\"text Lam-3-31\"><sup class=\"versenum\">31&nbsp;<\/sup>For no one is cast off<\/span><br>\n<span class=\"indent-1\"><span class=\"indent-1-breaks\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"text Lam-3-31\">by the Lord forever.<\/span><\/span><br>\n<span id=\"en-NIV-20387\" class=\"text Lam-3-32\"><sup class=\"versenum\">32&nbsp;<\/sup>Though he brings grief, he will show compassion,<\/span><br>\n<span class=\"indent-1\"><span class=\"indent-1-breaks\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"text Lam-3-32\">so great is his unfailing love.<\/span><\/span><br>\n<span id=\"en-NIV-20388\" class=\"text Lam-3-33\"><sup class=\"versenum\">33&nbsp;<\/sup>For he does not willingly bring affliction<\/span><br>\n<span class=\"indent-1\"><span class=\"indent-1-breaks\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"text Lam-3-33\">or grief to anyone.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"poetry top-05\">\n<p class=\"line\"><span id=\"en-NIV-20389\" class=\"text Lam-3-34\"><sup class=\"versenum\">34&nbsp;<\/sup>To crush underfoot<\/span><br>\n<span class=\"indent-1\"><span class=\"indent-1-breaks\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"text Lam-3-34\">all prisoners in the land,<\/span><\/span><br>\n<span id=\"en-NIV-20390\" class=\"text Lam-3-35\"><sup class=\"versenum\">35&nbsp;<\/sup>to deny people their rights<\/span><br>\n<span class=\"indent-1\"><span class=\"indent-1-breaks\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"text Lam-3-35\">before the Most High,<\/span><\/span><br>\n<span id=\"en-NIV-20391\" class=\"text Lam-3-36\"><sup class=\"versenum\">36&nbsp;<\/sup>to deprive them of justice\u2014<\/span><br>\n<span class=\"indent-1\"><span class=\"indent-1-breaks\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"text Lam-3-36\">would not the Lord see such things?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"poetry top-05\">\n<p class=\"line\"><span id=\"en-NIV-20392\" class=\"text Lam-3-37\"><sup class=\"versenum\">37&nbsp;<\/sup>Who can speak and have it happen<\/span><br>\n<span class=\"indent-1\"><span class=\"indent-1-breaks\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"text Lam-3-37\">if the Lord has not decreed it?<\/span><\/span><br>\n<span id=\"en-NIV-20393\" class=\"text Lam-3-38\"><sup class=\"versenum\">38&nbsp;<\/sup>Is it not from the mouth of the Most High<\/span><br>\n<span class=\"indent-1\"><span class=\"indent-1-breaks\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"text Lam-3-38\">that both calamities and good things come?<\/span><\/span><br>\n<span id=\"en-NIV-20394\" class=\"text Lam-3-39\"><sup class=\"versenum\">39&nbsp;<\/sup>Why should the living complain<\/span><br>\n<span class=\"indent-1\"><span class=\"indent-1-breaks\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"text Lam-3-39\">when punished for their sins?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p><strong><em><span style=\"color: #ab0919\">Coffee &amp;
