1 Peter 2:19-25  (New Revised Standard Version)<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

19 <\/sup>For it is a credit to you if, being aware of God, you endure pain while suffering unjustly. <\/span>20 <\/sup>If you endure when you are beaten for doing wrong, what credit is that? But if you endure when you do right and suffer for it, you have God\u2019s approval. <\/span>21 <\/sup>For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you should follow in his steps.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

22 <\/sup>\u201cHe committed no sin,<\/span>
\n    <\/span>and no deceit was found in his mouth.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

23 <\/sup>When he was abused, he did not return abuse; when he suffered, he did not threaten; but he entrusted himself to the one who judges justly. <\/span>24 <\/sup>He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that, free from sins, we might live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. <\/span>25 <\/sup>For you were going astray like sheep, but now you have returned to the shepherd and guardian of your souls.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jesus Heals on the Sabbath<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

5 <\/span>After this there was a festival of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

2 <\/sup>Now in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate there is a pool, called in Hebrew Beth-zatha, which has five porticoes. <\/span>3 <\/sup>In these lay many invalids\u2014blind, lame, and paralyzed. <\/span>5 <\/sup>One man was there who had been ill for thirty-eight years. <\/span>6 <\/sup>When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had been there a long time, he said to him, \u201cDo you want to be made well?\u201d <\/span>7 <\/sup>The sick man answered him, \u201cSir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; and while I am making my way, someone else steps down ahead of me.\u201d <\/span>8 <\/sup>Jesus said to him, \u201cStand up, take your mat and walk.\u201d <\/span>9 <\/sup>At once the man was made well, and he took up his mat and began to walk.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now that day was a sabbath. <\/span>10 <\/sup>So the Jews said to the man who had been cured, \u201cIt is the sabbath; it is not lawful for you to carry your mat.\u201d <\/span>11 <\/sup>But he answered them, \u201cThe man who made me well said to me, \u2018Take up your mat and walk.\u2019\u201d <\/span>12 <\/sup>They asked him, \u201cWho is the man who said to you, \u2018Take it up and walk\u2019?\u201d <\/span>13 <\/sup>Now the man who had been healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had disappeared in the crowd that was there. <\/span>14 <\/sup>Later Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, \u201cSee, you have been made well! Do not sin any more, so that nothing worse happens to you.\u201d <\/span>15 <\/sup>The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well. <\/span>16 <\/sup>Therefore the Jews started persecuting Jesus, because he was doing such things on the sabbath. <\/span>17 <\/sup>But Jesus answered them, \u201cMy Father is still working, and I also am working.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
