The Indictment of the Lord<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

6 Hear what the Lord says:
\nArise, plead your case before the mountains,
\nand let the hills hear your voice.
\n2 <\/sup>Hear, you mountains, the indictment of the Lord,
\nand you enduring foundations of the earth,
\nfor the Lord has an indictment against his people,
\nand he will contend with Israel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3 <\/sup>\u201cO my people, what have I done to you?
\nHow have I wearied you? Answer me!
\n4 <\/sup>For I brought you up from the land of Egypt
\nand redeemed you from the house of slavery,
\nand I sent before you Moses,
\nAaron, and Miriam.
\n5 <\/sup>O my people, remember what Balak king of Moab devised,
\nand what Balaam the son of Beor answered him,
\nand what happened from Shittim to Gilgal,

What Does the Lord Require?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

6 <\/sup>\u201cWith what shall I come before the Lord,
\nand bow myself before God on high?
\nShall I come before him with burnt offerings,
\nwith calves a year old?
\n7 <\/sup>Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams,
\nwith ten thousands of rivers of oil?
\nShall I give my firstborn for my transgression,
\nthe fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?\u201d
\n8 <\/sup>He has told you, O man, what is good;
\nand what does the Lord require of you
\nbut to do justice, and to love kindness,
\nand to walk humbly with your God?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
