Matthew 20:20-28  (English Standard Version)<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A Mother’s Request<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

20 <\/sup>Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came up to him with her sons, and kneeling before him she asked him for something.<\/span> 21 <\/sup>And he said to her, \u201cWhat do you want?\u201d<\/span> She said to him, \u201cSay that these two sons of mine are to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your kingdom.\u201d<\/span> 22 <\/sup>Jesus answered, \u201cYou do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am to drink?\u201d<\/span> They said to him, \u201cWe are able.\u201d<\/span> 23 <\/sup>He said to them, \u201cYou will drink my cup, but to sit at my right hand and at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father.\u201d<\/span><\/span> 24 <\/sup>And when the ten heard it, they were indignant at the two brothers.<\/span> 25 <\/sup>But Jesus called them to him and said, \u201cYou know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them.<\/span><\/span> 26 <\/sup>It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant,<\/span><\/span> 27 <\/sup>and whoever would be first among you must be your slave,<\/span><\/span> 28 <\/sup>even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

1 Timothy 3:2-7  (English Standard Version)<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

2 <\/sup>Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,<\/span> 3 <\/sup>not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money.<\/span> 4 <\/sup>He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive,<\/span> 5 <\/sup>for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God’s church?<\/span>6 <\/sup>He must not be a recent convert, or he may become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil.<\/span> 7 <\/sup>Moreover, he must be well thought of by outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, into a snare of the devil.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
