Psalm 51:1\u20132, 4, 7, 13  (English Standard Version)<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

51 <\/span>Have mercy on me,[a<\/a>]<\/sup> O God,<\/span><\/span>
\n    <\/span>according to your steadfast love;…<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

2 <\/sup>Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,<\/span>
\n    <\/span>and cleanse me from my sin!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

4 …<\/sup><\/span>you may be justified in your words<\/span>
\n    <\/span>and blameless in your judgment.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

7 <\/sup>Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;<\/span>
\n    <\/span>wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Birth of Jesus Christ<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

18 <\/sup>Now the birth of Jesus Christ[a<\/a>]<\/sup> took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed[b<\/a>]<\/sup> to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with childfrom the Holy Spirit.<\/span> 19 <\/sup>And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly.<\/span> 20 <\/sup>But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, \u201cJoseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.<\/span> 21 <\/sup>She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.\u201d<\/span> 22 <\/sup>All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

23 <\/sup>\u201cBehold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,<\/span>
\n    <\/span>and they shall call his name Immanuel\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

(which means, God with us).<\/span> 24 <\/sup>When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife,<\/span> 25 <\/sup>but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
