and they chose Stephen,\u2026\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong> IF A CHURCH IS IN _ _ _ _ _ &nbsp;AS FAR AS ELDERS IS CONCERNED, THEN DEACONS CAN BE IDENTIFIED AND FUNCTION IN THEIR &nbsp;_ _ _ _ _ _ _ .<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Definition: \u201cServant.\u201d \u201cCare for the physical and logistical needs of the church so that the Elders can concentrate on their primary calling.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>They help the Pastor and Elders do the ministry.<\/li>\n<li><strong> SOME OF THE _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ .: <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>1 Tim. 3:8-13:&nbsp; <sup>8&nbsp;<\/sup>Deacons likewise <em>must be<\/em> men of dignity, not double-tongued, or addicted <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>to much wine or fond of sordid gain, <sup>9&nbsp;<\/sup><em>but<\/em> holding to the mystery of the faith with a clear <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>conscience. <sup>10&nbsp;<\/sup>These men must also first be tested; then let them serve as deacons if they are beyond reproach. <sup>11&nbsp;<\/sup>Women <em>must<\/em> likewise <em>be<\/em> dignified, not malicious gossips, but temperate, faithful in all things. <sup>12&nbsp;<\/sup>Deacons must be husbands of <em>only<\/em> one wife, <em>and<\/em> good managers of <em>their<\/em> children and their own households. <sup>13&nbsp;<\/sup>For those who have served well as deacons obtain for themselves a high standing and great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Dignified \u2013 GR. \u201cHonorable, respectable, esteemed, worthy.\u201d (v. 8)<\/li>\n<li>Not double-tongued, \u201cto say one thing to certain people but something else to others.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Sound in faith and life \u2013 1. Trained in doctrine. 2. Practices it. 3. Supports church programs. (v. 9)<\/li>\n<li>Tested \u2013 No hasty appointments. (v. 10)<\/li>\n<li>Godly spouse \u2013 1. Team effort. 2. Not involved in division or gossip (v. 11).<\/li>\n<li><strong> THE _ _ _ _ OF DEACONS:<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Service oriented as opposed to ministry focus of Pastor and Elders (Acts 6).<\/li>\n<li>Practical Areas:<\/li>\n<li>Facilities, basic management, supplies, upkeep, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Benevolence (Acts 6).<\/li>\n<li>Finances, day to day budget, (overseen by Elders and congregation).<\/li>\n<li>Ushers, bulletins, communion preparation, set up, recovery; greeters, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Logistics. Think and look at what we do. How can we do it better?<\/li>\n<li>Possibilities and Ideas:<\/li>\n<li>Deacon Committees, e.g.,:<\/li>\n<li>Building Committee managed by an appointed deacon.<\/li>\n<li>Supply Deacon.<\/li>\n<li>Greeting and\/or Usher Deacon, who manages this.<\/li>\n<li>Elder Committees (Comparison\/Contrast):<\/li>\n<li>Visitation Elder. (identifies and supports visitation program).<\/li>\n<li>Evangelism Elder. (Explores church growth concepts and interfaces with<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Pastor and other Elders for ideas and implementation)<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Children\u2019s Ministry &amp; Outreach Elder.<\/li>\n<li>Fellowship Ministry.<\/li>\n<li>Worship Service Ideas.<\/li>\n<li>Notice the difference between the service oriented Deacon role and ministry oriented Elder role.<\/li>\n<li><strong> THE _ _ _ _ _ _ WERE FIRST IN THE N. T. CHURCHES.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Apostles (Ministry gifted leaders established churches and appointed Elders).<\/li>\n<li>Later, the congregation, with direction and guidance from the Elders, identify called and capable deacons. Elders confirm and appoint them.<\/li>\n<li>Their primary function is service oriented (Logistical). Deacons DO IT!!!<\/li>\n<li>The Elders handled the spiritual matters and Ministry.<\/li>\n<li>Result: a continuous flow of ministry without the perpetual obligation of filling positions with sometimes uncommitted or uncalled individuals.<\/li>\n<li>God is not looking for perfect leaders. But He is calling imperfect individuals to perfect His Church.<\/li>\n<li>He is giving some the desire to service His Church and His world as Elders and Deacons.<\/li>\n<li>Our responsibility is to identify them and appoint them.<\/li>\n<li>He blesses us when we align ourselves with His ways.&nbsp;\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300\"><em><strong>Sunday School:<\/strong><\/em><\/span><br>\n10:00 \u2013 11:00 AM \u2013 in the Parish Hall Lower Level.
