Psalm 24:1-7  (Common English Bible)<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A psalm of David.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

24 The earth is the Lord\u2019s and everything in it,
\nthe world and its inhabitants too.
\n2 Because God is the one who established it on the seas;
\nGod set it firmly on the waters.
\n3 Who can ascend the Lord\u2019s mountain?
\nWho can stand in his holy sanctuary?
\n4 Only the one with clean hands and a pure heart;
\nthe one who hasn\u2019t made false promises,
\nthe one who hasn\u2019t sworn dishonestly.
\n5 That kind of person receives blessings from the Lord
\nand righteousness from the God who saves.
\n6 And that\u2019s how things are
\nwith the generation that seeks him\u2014
\nthat seeks the face of Jacob\u2019s God. Selah
\n7 Mighty gates: lift up your heads!
\nAncient doors: rise up high!
\nSo the glorious king can enter!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sign of Immanuel<\/em>
\n10 Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz, 11 \u201cAsk a sign of the Lord your God; let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven.\u201d 12 But Ahaz said, \u201cI will not ask, and I will not put the Lord to the test.\u201d 13 And he said, \u201cHear then, O house of David! Is it too little for you to weary men, that you weary my God also? 14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2 The people who walked in darkness
\nhave seen a great light;
\nthose who dwelt in a land of deep darkness,
\non them has light shone.
\n3 You have multiplied the nation;
\nyou have increased its joy;
\nthey rejoice before you
\nas with joy at the harvest,
\nas they are glad when they divide the spoil.
\n4 For the yoke of his burden,
\nand the staff for his shoulder,
\nthe rod of his oppressor,
\nyou have broken as on the day of Midian.
\n5 For every boot of the tramping warrior in battle tumult
\nand every garment rolled in blood
\nwill be burned as fuel for the fire.
\n6 For to us a child is born,
\nto us a son is given;
\nand the government shall be upon his shoulder,
\nand his name shall be called
\nWonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
\nEverlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
\n7 Of the increase of his government and of peace
\nthere will be no end,
\non the throne of David and over his kingdom,
\nto establish it and to uphold it
\nwith justice and with righteousness
\nfrom this time forth and forevermore.
\nThe zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
