John 15:26-27; 16:4-15; Acts 2:1-13
- A sound like rushing wind: like wind blowing in the trees, like the sound of a crowd of people all speaking at the same time.
- A sound like “divided tongues as of fire” (v. 2), different tongues or distributed tongues, and tongues means languages; like a crowd of people speaking different languages. People’s tongues were flickering like the flames of fire flicker.
- The idea is that they were all talking at the same time about the same thing: about Jesus!
- And the tongues were “as of fire.” We could also call it a hot topic. People were animated, excited, passionate.
- And “the Spirit gave them utterance” (v. 4), the Holy Spirit gave them the words to speak: true words about Jesus.
