Listen Here: “Know Better“
Exodus 20:1-17; 1 Corinthians 1:18-25
God’s law has been given as an act of grace, an act of love. God is concerned for the well-being of humanity. The essence of God’s covenant with Moses is found in Deuteronomy 28. Again, it is the same universal covenant, given with additional clarity.
- The idea is that God responds to us as we respond to Him. We get what we deserve. This idea is known the world over as karma. God gives people what they deserve.
- However, this perspective falls short of God’s actual gift and His intention. It falls short because it does not consider the viability of the New Testament.
- God has given us His law because we are ignorant of our actual situation. The sin of Adam and Eve dominates this world—still. It’s not that God is not here, He is! But apart from the power and presence of the Holy Spirit in our own, individual lives, we deny Him. We ignore God. We don’t recognize His presence. We are blind to Him.
- To love God is to want to please God, and God wants our obedience.
- And God will be satisfied with our desire to be obedient. He knows that perfect obedience is currently beyond us. So He is satisfied with our honest desire to live in obedience, as best as we are able, according to our honest effort.
