Listen here: “Transition“
Genesis 9:8-17; 1 Peter 3:18-22
- The Old Testament is filled with references to God appearing, or God speaking to someone. These ocurances are theophanies.
- But God doesn’t always appear in a “visible” form. Sometimes people hear a “still small voice.”
- To ask whether it is a real voice, or a thought, is to ask the wrong question. The issue is not how God’s voice is manifested to people. The issue is the message God communicates. It doesn’t matter how it is communicated.
- The Lectionary then couples this story with 2 Corinthians 4:1-6. These few verses in 2 Corinthians are about the light of the gospel.
- By coupling these stories, these Scriptures, together, the Lord is telling us to not get caught up in the mystery, in the weirdness or the darkness, the unintelligibility of the transfiguration.
