Sermon 2/25/2024: “Righteous Faith”

Listen here: “Righteous Faith

  • “I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless, that I may make my covenant between me and you…” (vs. 1-2).
    • At first sight it looks like works-righteousness, that God is requiring Abraham to be righteous as a condition of the covenant. As if God said: be blameless or righteous so that I can make my covenant with you.
    • And if we limit ourselves to these words, it does say that. But that was not all that God said.
  • People usually look to the government, the law, to provide justice. But neither the government nor the law are able to provide justice because justice is not something that people get; justice is something that people give.
    • Ask any lawyer if the law is about justice. It’s not, it’s about the legal process. Justice is a different thing.
