Listen here: “Christmas Reunion“
1 John 3:1-3, 11-15
- There are two kinds of time: chronos and kiros. Chronos time is measured by our clocks and calendars.
- Chronos time moves forward in equally long segments: seconds, minutes, hours, days, months, years.
- Kiros time is more flexible. It moves forward in unequally long segments of expectation.
- When it is dinner time chronos time looks at the clock, but kiros time looks at the kitchen because dinner isn’t served until it’s ready.
- Kiros time is expectant time and it doesn’t come until whatever is expected is ready.
- Mary anticipated a baby. That Baby anticipated a Kingdom.
- Mary delivered a baby who delivered God’s people.
- Jesus recognized that some people did not self-identity as children of God.
- It’s not that God excluded them, but that they excluded themselves from God’s family.
The joy of Christmas is the family reunion of God’s people. The lament of Christmas is that not everyone has made it to the reunion… yet.- (This is just a teaser. If you want to know more, listen to the sermon.)
