Mark 10:46-52; Hebrews 7:23-28
- Jericho became a symbol of God coming into the world, as the Jews conquered the land of Israel.
- In Mark’s story the people of Jericho are represented by a blind beggar, Bartimaeus. The significance the people of the world are blind to the fact that the Lord was coming into their world.
- Jericho represents the land of the Gentiles, and their blindness to God’s presence.

- And yet these people, blind to God as they were, called out to Jesus. Somehow they recognized Jesus as the Son of David.
- Jesus, under the authority of Melchizedek, said that that story was finished, and the new story was about the freedom of the world to go its own way, or to practice faithfulness and follow Jesus.
- People were free to ignore Jesus or follow Jesus, but we are not free from the consequences of our choice.
