Listen here: “Spiritual Growth“
Jesus was an ordinary man, He experienced temptation like we do—but He overcame temptation, even when it meant that He would suffer for doing what is right. That’s our model. He did it, and because He did it as an ordinary man, we can do what He did. He said in John 14:12, “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.” You and I can do what Jesus did (overcome temptation) because Jesus was an ordinary man.
God does not change, nor does the gospel message change over time. They are always the same. But people grow and mature, and as we grow and mature our perspectives and understandings of things do change as we grow. So, while the gospel doesn’t change, we do. We come to understand it better, more fully, over time. Our understanding of Jesus and the gospel changes as we grow. Yet it doesn’t change, we do.
