Listen Here: “Apocalypse: Measured“
Isaiah 40:1-8; 2 Peter 3:8-15
Isaiah brought a message of comfort, which was good news to Israel. It was an evangelical message to God’s people who were in the midst of trouble and difficulty.
- The “day of the Lord” is understood as an historic and cataclysmic event intended to correct the wrongs and injustices that people have perpetuated.
- As unreconciled injustice repeatedly happens, injustice creates moral decay that builds up over time in a society, and at some point, like the breaking of a dam, God’s judgment and justice floods the world. The result brings God’s understanding of righteousness to bear on human culture.
