Amos 5:18-24; Matthew 25:1-13
Amos spoke God’s judgment, God’s evaluation, of ancient Israel. His words are preserved as a lesson for the following generations, for all who will heed them.
- They prayed that God would destroy His enemies and free Israel from oppression.
- The message of Amos was that God would do exactly that, but in addition, Amos said, Israel had become an enemy of God, and would also receive God’s judgment. The Lectionary points us to Matthew 25, the parable of the ten virgins, as a solution to this problem.
